wish

Naomi is the featured student of her class this week. She got to make a poster about herself to share. She was asked to draw a picture of herself, her friends, her family, her favorite place to be and "if I had one wish". Sweet little Naomi looked up at me and said, "if I had one wish I would wish people couldn't fight anymore." She is truly the most unselfish, caring soul I've ever met.

I think I sometimes underestimate how pure and meek children can be. I get caught up in the everyday demands of modern life. School, housekeeping, and sibling quarrels tend to scream a little louder. But once in a while I capture a moment that humbles me and shows me that this is what Jesus meant when he said we must be as little children to enter the kingdom of God. I wish I were little more like Naomi.

Weekend Fun

I love three day weekends!!! We had time to work, play and relax. The kids finished their three day work party in the jungle (a.k.a. our backyard)to earn a new wii game. Don't call CPS yet, they only worked a total of 4 hours. By the third day theywere pros and we are proud of their efforts.
















We had a ward party on Monday late morning and a cul-de-sac party Monday late afternoon. Lots of BBQ and play time. Here are some high lights.
You can take the man out of the game, but you can't take the game out of the man.

Pity Party

I'm feeling sorry for myself right now that I can't even roll over at night without waking up and Marea can be upside down halfway off the bed and still totally knocked out. LUCKYYYY!

Staying cool

The heat wave that has been moving down the west coast has not escaped us. And the lack of air conditioning in our house has NOT escaped my attention. Thank goodness for the pool. I even jumped in at 9:00 last night to cool off before bed.


Jonah and Deon went camping on Friday night at Camp Pendleton's San Onofre beach. They got turned away at the base guard gate because D didn't have the new insurance card in yet (the old one expired May 1st) So they had to come back home and grab the new card and drive back up. Luckily, before it got dark, they got their tent up...right next to the train tracks. But don't worry they stayed up until 11 so they slept pretty good..until 6!

Flashback Friday

Following my little sister, Melinda's, advice here is a flashback Friday picture of the kiddos. Picture taken on our stairs for the 2005 Christmas card. This wasn't the "the one" but I think it's still a winner.

Thanks to our heat wave we all went swimming in the pool for the first time today! Although it only hit 82, it felt like a scorcher to me. I am getting San Diego spoiled already. The next two days I see we are supposed to hit 89, so I'm sure there are some swimming pool shots to follow.

Virgin voyage

OK all you seasoned bloggers out there, no mocking my futile attempt of keeping a blog. It's not the technology I am afraid of, or even the security, but the fact I have to maintain and update with new postings. I am hoping the facts that I am 8 months pregnant, potty training my 3rd kid, running the other two to school, sports, and play dates will exempt me for anyones expectations of quality content. That disclaimer being stated, I hope our family adventures are as entertaining to you as they are to us!

The kids and I took a trip to Quail Gardens in Encinitas. The first Tuesday of every month you get in free. It was actually more fun than I thought it would be. The kids loved the bamboo forest and the pond with turtles and giant toads.


The giant toads actually reminded me of when I was a kid and all of the sudden it started smelling like rotten fish by our front door. Nobody could figure out why, but the smell kept getting worse. Finally someone took the initiative to investigate and found a huge rotting toad behind the bushes. It was about 6-8 inches in diameter! Poor Kermie. I'm sure these toads face a better fate.
